There are three classes of members:
- Inspector Members (Licensed in Virginia)
- Associate Members (Students)
- Affiliate Members (Vendors)

Associate Member
Associates are prospective inspectors who are not yet licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia (DPOR) to perform paid home inspections. Associates pay dues as required by the Board. Associates are not eligible to vote and may not hold office or serve on the Board.
Inspector Member
Inspector Members shall be persons or individuals who are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia (DPOR) and are actively involved in the performance of professional paid home inspections in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or persons who supervise home inspectors.
Existing affiliation with other regional or national Inspector associations does not affect VAREI membership.
Retired Member
Retired Members shall be persons who have practiced as professional home Inspectors in Virginia for five or more years but are no longer doing so.
Student Member
This introductory membership type is for those who have completed a training program to become an inspector and have passed the National Home Inspector Exam (NHIE) as part of the Virginia requirement to become a licensed home inspector.
Affiliates are NOT inspectors. Rather, they are vendors and professionals offering products and services to VAREI's inspector members.
Affiliates might be vendors who sell tools, insurance or marketing services. They might also be real estate agents or lawyers.
For an additional fee, Affiliates may choose to be a sponsor of VAREI's annual meeting in Richmond. Benefits include:
- An exhibit table at the meeting
- Opportunity to address the membership to introduce your company
- A catered lunch
- The opportunity to meet with multiple prospects throughout the day
Guests of VAREI are home inspectors who are not VAREI members, but do want to be kept informed about upcoming events. By becoming a Guest, an inspector is, in effect, placing their name on our mailing list.
