Virginia Home Inspectors
Be Aware

The Virginia Housing Commission (VHC) did not endorse Senator Surovell's proposal to restrict home inspector's right to limit their liability.
However, he has until January 23 to introduce it for this legislative session.

2025 VAREI Annual Meeting

Thursday, October 9, 2025

While we do make a point of including top-level training, our primary purpose in getting together each year is to discuss legal developments likely, impending, or current. This year we had a little bit of all three.
  • Our incoming president, Bill Wilmoth has been hard at work promoting legislation that would require landlords to hire home inspectors for annual smoke detector tests.
  • The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation recently issued an updated version of the Home Inspector license regulation.
  • The Virginia Housing Commission is considering legislation that, if passed, might require Virginia home inspectors to carry E&O insurance, and restrict our ability to limit our liability.

Alden Echols of Slope Pro Roofing gave us his pitch onĀ different roofing types.
Brianne Smith of InspectorPro Insurance limited her talk to the likely implications of a restriction on our ability to protect our liablity.
Hollis Brown ran the A/V and kept us on track and in frame.
Joe Gershowitz of Award Electrical Service and Home Inspection completed the circuit on how to perform electrical inspections.
John Cranor updated us on the new DPOR regulation.
Zachary LeMaster cooked up an explanation of how the sausage is made.
All Virginia licensed home inspectors are encouraged to be informed, get involved, and join hands with us as we take on one of the most important issues that has ever come before VAREI.
